Australian Wine Marketing Workshops: where should we go?

With our New Zealand Wine Marketing Workshops filling up we have turned our attention to Australia (California after that). We’re hoping, dear readers, you can help us with determining which towns we should go to.

May 2013 will be the month, the workshops are for small and medium size wineries, though we do get the odd wine web designer and wine retailer coming along.

Each SA, VIC and NSW wine region has a number of subregions – often 100km+ separates neighbouring wine region towns! Time to seek some advice  in good ol’ social media fashion.

Australian Wine Regions

Does this itinerary make sense?

We’ve done some research, talked to our Aussie friends, and made our best guess as to where we should go. We’ll hire a car, start off in the Barossa, wind our way through key regions in SA and VIC then finish off in the Hunter Valley. Here’s the draft itinerarty:

  1. Barossa Valley: Nunootpa (SA)
  2. McLaren Vale (or Willunga/Noarlunga) (SA)
  3. Adelaide Hills: Hahndorf / Stirling (SA)
  4. Coonawarra: Penola (SA)
  5. Geelong (VIC)
  6. Yarra Glen (VIC)
  7. Mornington (VIC)
  8. Rutherglen (VIC)
  9. Bungendore / Yass (NSW)
  10. Orange (NSW)
  11. Mudgee (NSW)
  12. Hunter Valley: Pokolbin / Cessnock (NSW)

Have we got it about right? Or have we missed out a key region. Have we over estimated the number of wineries in one region versus another? (Generally the GM, sales & marketing or cellar door person attends.)

West Australia?

How about the WA, is it worth splitting out Swan Valley (Guildford?), Margaret River and Mt Barker (WA). Or just go to Margaret River region. (Sorry WA you may have to wait till the next tour).
